人頭有翼獅子像

この翼のあるライオンは、アッシュールナツィルパル2 世の宮殿の門扉や入り口に置かれた、翼のある野獣を描いた巨大な石像のひと つであり、支配者を悪から守り、宮殿を訪れるすべての者を圧倒することを目的に造られました。ライオンは古代中近東の神像によく見られる角のついた被り物をし、脚が5 本あります。前からは静止しているように見えますが、横から見ると前へ踏み出しているように見えます。このようにどの面から見ても完全な姿を表すことで、その超自然的な守護の力を示しています。
