調度品支柱
このカバ牙のスフィンクスは、丈の低い調度品の4つの支柱のうちのひとつでした。スフィンクスの胴体はライオンの形をし、渦巻く髪の房はエジプトのハトホル女神の像に由来しています。アナトリアの美術品にエジプ トの特徴や文様が見られることは、2千年紀初頭にこのふたつの地域に文化的交流があったことを示しています。この支柱は、メソポタミア北部のアッシリア人貿易商がアナトリアに築いた商業開拓地のひとつから出土されたものと考えられています。
