山猫形リュトン

動物の頭の形をした杯や、前面に注ぎ口があるリュトン(角杯)は、古代中近東の社会において大変珍重されました。このリュトンは、先端が山猫(おそらくヒョウ)の前半身を成し、胸部中央の注ぎ口の周りにはツタとブドウの蔓がかかっています。ヒョウ、ツタ、ブドウの蔓はすべてギリシャの豊穣と酒の神、ディオニソスにまつわるシンボルです。中近東とギリシャの美術的要素が形状や図様に融合したこの作品は、この時代の広域にわたる文化交流と互いへの影響を物語っています。
