聖母戴冠
アンニーバレ・カラッチは、カラヴァッジョとともに、17世紀イタリア画壇において最も影響力のある画家でした。この重要な作品は、1595年にカラッチがローマに移り住んだ直後に枢機卿ピエトロ・アルドブランディーニのために描いたもので、1800年までアルドブランディーニ家のコレクショ ンに収蔵されたものです。この作品でカラッチは、光と色の効果を敏感に捉えたイタリア北部の伝統と、ルネッサンス全盛期の作品に見られる余白の整理と理想化された人物像の描写という、イタリア絵画のふたつの画壇の特徴を融合させました。17世紀の古典主義の流れは、この作品によって変わり始めました。
