波涛図

古今多くの芸術家や詩人一瞬の波のうねりを捉えようとしてきましたが、尾形光琳によるこの作品は、そこここに長く不規則に伸びる触手のような泡のせいか、異様に不吉な雰囲気を感じさせます。片手に筆を2本持って描く中国古来の技法を用い、墨で輪郭を描いた鉤爪のような波は、室町時代の絵師雪村周継(1504年頃–1589年頃)の作品に発想を得たのかも知れません。屏風には光琳が1704年に使い始めた道崇の落款があります。
