玉座の聖母子像
聖母の膝に堅苦しく座る聖子を表したこの像は、単なる母と子の肖像以上に、聖なる知恵の体現としての幼子キリストの役割を強調しています。このメッセージをさらに強調するため、イエスは書物を手にしていたはずです。聖母の衣服に見られるリズム感ある模様、その顔を囲う繊細なベール、そして特に座布団に残る緑色の絵具の跡に、この作品の厳粛な美がうかがわれます。この種の彫像は教会に祭られた他、教会の行列行進で運ばれ礼拝の対象とされました。この像は、聖母の肩の後と胸が空洞になっていることから、おそらく聖遺物を納める容器として使われたと考えられます。
