聖霊降臨祭の飾り板

新約聖書の使徒言行録には、聖霊がイエスの弟子たちに伝道のための力を与えたと記録されています。その瞬間を捉えたこの小品の傑作は、12色以上の宝石のように鮮やかな色彩で描かれています。復活祭の50日後、天からの激しい風のような音とともに彼らの頭上を炎の舌が舞い、弟子たちは外国語を話せるようになりました。作品では、中央に座った天への鍵を持つ聖ペテロの上に神の手が現れています。この飾り板はミューズ川流域(現在のフランスとベルギー)で祭壇または説教壇の一部として作られたものと考えられています。
