ヴェルノネのテラス

ボナールは1912年にヴェルノン近郊のヴェルノネに家を買い求め、1939年までそれを絵画の主題として描きました。この大型の鮮やかな色彩の後期の作品では、家を取り囲み、地面より高く不規則な形に作られたテラスの隅の木陰での光景が描かれています。奇妙なことに、3人の女性より木の幹に焦点が置かれています。手すりがあることから、テラスの下に広がる庭へ下りる階段があることが分かります。テラスは舞台の役割を果たし、庭はその背景のカーテンのように立ち上がっているように見えます。
