直立像

全長1~2 cmの実験的な小像を制作していたジャコメッティは、1945年以降大型の作品を手がけ始め、1947年までに、歩く男性像、女性の直立像、そして胸像や頭像という3つの主題を中心に制作するようになりました。量感をそぎ落とした等身大を超えるこの作品では、ブロンズに施されたくすんだベージュの塗料が、疎外感や非現実性を際立たせています。硬く侵食したような表面は、あたかも作品が何世紀も風雨にさらされていたかのような印象を与え、そのたたずまいには、エジプトの立像の影響がうかがえます。
