女像柱のあるケトルドラム
釜の形をしたこの作品のようなリード・ドラムは、ガーナ南部に住むアカン族の地域で行われた音楽隊による伝統芸能において、音楽的また視覚的中心を担っていました。音楽隊の太鼓は、リードドラムを母親とした家族に見立て、伝統的な母系家系の重要性を象徴として捉えられました。太鼓を支えるふたりの女像柱は、楽器の女性性を表しています。子供に乳を与える母親は、女性の生殖能力とアカン族の社会における母系の重要性を示し、本に書き込んでいる女性は、アカン社会が教育を非常に重視したことを反映します。このような図様は、家族、社会、そして政治を題材とするリード・ドラムによく見られます。
