アルシノエ2世の頭像

この半等身大の石像の頭部は、バチカンに収蔵されている、名前が刻まれた像とよく似ていることから、プトレマイオス2世(紀元前284年–前246年)の妹で妻だったアルシノエ2世のものと考えられています。頭上の石の突起部にあった王冠の位置と、推定される王冠の形態から、この像がイシス・ハトホル女神に神格化された(すなわち死後の)アルシノエであることを示しており、女王として8年間統治した後に作られた作品の可能性があります。徹底したエジプト様式が採用されており、マケドニア・ギリシャのプトレマイオス朝がファラオの真の後継者であることを示そうと努力したことが伺えます。
