War Hat

ca. 1475
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 373
The graceful spiral shape distinguishes this as a masterpiece of fifteenth-century armor making. Similar war hats, usually with gilt ornaments mounted on the apex, are often represented in Franco-Burgundian tapestries.
