말 시장
화면의 왼쪽 배경으로 살짝 보이는 살페트리에 정신병원 부근 오피탈 거리에서 파리 말 시장이열렸습니다. 보뇌르는 1년 6개월 동안 매주 두 번씩 이목을 피하기 위해 남장을 하고 말 시장에 가서 스케치를 하였습니다. 이 그림은 1852년에 그리기 시작하여 1853년 파리 살롱전에 발표된 뒤, 나중에 수정되었습니다. 1887년에 메트로폴리탄 박물관에 전시된 이래, 이 인상적이고 기백 넘치는 작품은 우리 박물관이 소장하고 있는 여러 작품들 중 가장 인기 있고 사랑 받는 그림 중 하나가 되었습니다.
