이 폴리오의 삽화는 12세기 이란의 시인 파리드알-딘 아타르가 쓴 신비적 서사시만티크 알-타이르(새의 언어)의 한 장면을 묘사한 것입니다. 이 새들은 시무르그(궁극적인 영적 통일을 나타내는 신화 속의 새)를 찾는 개별 영혼을 상징하며, 이 장면에서 새들은 오른쪽 중앙의 바위 위에 앉아 있는 후투티의 지휘 아래 순례를 시작하기 위해 목가적인 풍경의 장소에 모여 있습니다. 신중하고 조화로운 구도는 동일한 삽화집에 수록된 15세기 말 티무르 왕조시대 세밀화의 구도와 일치하지만 그 외 이야기와 무관한 사냥꾼의 출현, 이란에서 16세기 이후에 사용되었던 사냥꾼의 무기와 16세기 말부터 17세기 초까지 활동했던 화가 하비발라의 서명 등 세 가지 요소를 통해 이 작품이 티무르 왕조시대의 세밀화보다 더 후기에 제작되었음을 알 수 있습니다.
