1905년과 1906년에 앙드레 드랭은 이 그림을 포함해 수많은 도시 풍경을 그려 접수 대상인 미술상 앙브루아즈 볼라르에게 제공했는데 앙브루아즈는 그에게 런던으로 여행을 떠날 것을 제안하였습니다. 드랭이 나중에 상기했던 대로 이러한 캔버스는 불과 몇 년 전에 그려졌던 클로드 모네의 런던 전망에 영감을 받은 것이었으며 “파리에 아주 강한 인상을 남기게 되었습니다.” 드랭의 길고 끊긴 붓놀림과 밝고 과감한 색상은 프랑스 남부 지역에서 1905년 여름을 함께 보냈던 마티스뿐만 아니라 후기 인상주의자들이었던 폴 시냐크과 앙리 에드몽 크로스에게 받은 영향을 반영합니다.
