베크만은1946년 암스테르담에서출발제작에 착수하여 1947년 미국으로 이주한 후 1949년에 완성하였습니다. 그의 10점의 세폭화 중 8번째 작품으로 유소년 시절을 테마로 다루고 있습니다. 오른쪽의 수업 장면에서는 엄한 교사가 학생들을 내려다보고 있습니다. 왼쪽 패널에는 왕관을 쓴 소년이 창을 통해 맹인 오르간 연주자를 보고 있습니다. 이 음악에 매혹되어 나타난 천사 성가대가 보입니다. 중앙의 회화는 다락방에서 소녀가 파이프를 통해 비눗방울을 불고 있고 군복을 입은 작은 소년이 흔들 목마를 타고 있으며 장화 신은 고양이가 거꾸로 매달려 있는 광경을 묘사합니다.
