毕斯柱

新几内亚西南的阿斯马特人有为刚去世的人举办筵席的习俗，一则为了纪念亡者，一则为了助其灵魂去到祖先的世界里；高耸的“毕斯”柱就是为这种筵席而造的。每根柱子都是用整根倒立的木材雕刻而成的，柱顶用一段树根来表现伸出的翅膀。柱身上的大型人物雕像代表筵席所纪念的亡者。柱子的底部有时会雕刻一艘把死者带去阴间的独木舟，正如图中所示。
