宋徽宗是宋朝第八位皇帝，也是皇族中艺术造诣最高的一位。《翠竹双雀图》体现了在徽宗的宫廷画院中所践行的写实风格花鸟画法。然而，不论是描绘自然还是为诗文配画，徽宗都重意境而轻刻板诠释。此图上的双雀纤毫毕现，栩栩如生，雀鸟眼中的点漆可谓画龙点睛。
