信奉阿弥陀佛强调的是，众生在不完美的生活环境下要开悟是不可能的，因此应发愿往生极乐世界，那里如净土和中途站，其修行条件有益于追求更高的智慧。此处，从阿弥陀佛双臂的位置可看出，现已遗失的双手原来应是结禅定印。这尊阿弥陀佛像是用一种复杂的干漆夹苎技术制成的，通常先以木头为心，然后以泥塑成胎，再用浸满漆的麻布覆盖，最后再取出中心。这种技术在八世纪时从中国传到了日本。
