Cloche

American

Not on view

The shape of this cloche reflects the increasing height of the crown as the decade progressed. There was little variation in the shape from 1920 to 1927, so emphasis was placed on trimming details, pleating or other decorative techniques. In this case, the interest is in the woven pattern. The geometric motif may have been influenced by traditional cultures or by Cubist artists of the period.
