The name of this nightgown, "Four Poster" refers to the four poster beds prevalent in the nineteenth century showing Pedlar's interest in historical dress. Her knowledge and interest in traditional clothing is apparent in the simple cut of the sleeves with gussets which was common in traditional folk costume. This was a highly successful design of Pedlar's, for the accession records note that approximately one million copies were sold in various fabrics.
