Limestone head of a boy

Cypriot

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

The head may belong to a so-called temple boy, a sculptural type representing a child—usually a boy—seated on the ground, with or without attributes. These sculptures were probably dedications connected with a rite of passage for children at about two years of age.
