Marble palette

Cycladic

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 151

The palette is an established shape in the repertoire of Cycladic marble utensils. Recurrent traces of red pigment, as here, suggest that palettes were used to prepare colors for application to statuettes and perhaps also to human beings.
