Falcon Amulet

Late Period–Ptolemaic Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

This small falcon is standing on a small rectangular base. The artisan used the light colored striations of the stone to stress the falcon’s head and wings which stand in contrast to the dark blue of the falcon’s chest and legs. The falcon was associated with different gods, such as Horus and Re-Harakhty. In the absence of a headdress, it is uncertain which deity is represented here.
