Bendir (frame drum)

Moroccan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 681

A small thumbhole in the side provides a means of stabilizing this large drum when held upright in the hand. Two snares made of gut strings were attached on the inside of the drum next to the goatskin head to augment the percussive sound.
