A Royal Woman

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 111

This typical representation of a royal woman shows the usual uraeus serpent at her brow. The square shape of the face and the voluminous hairstyle place the piece in the middle of Dynasty 12. Just enough is preserved of the proper right arm to show that it was bent: the royal woman was originally represented seated.
