Model Spear Case

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 112

The model spear case (17.9.4) is painted to imitate the ox-hide used in actual military equipment. It holds seven model spears (17.9.5–.11), two of which have been removed for this photograph. The model weapons and shield (17.9.3) were made for the burial of a Middle Kingdom official. (See also 17.9.3–.11-related.)
