Model butcher shop and brewery

Middle Kingdom
ca. 1981–1802 B.C.
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 109
This model shows brewers, bakers, and butchers carrying out their tasks. The figures included in this display come from the context of a tomb, and would have been meant to help guarantee eternal sustenance for the deceased. However, the base board is modern, and although the elements were excavated, the arrangement here appears to be a modern creation.
