Domed Box

Syrian

Not on view

Boxes like this one seem to echo the great domed buildings of the Islamic world. Across faiths, the domes of Jerusalem signal the presence of the sacred and hint at competing claims for the attention of the faithful. Lengthy inscriptions encircling this box praise its original owner, who remains anonymous.
