Combats and Triumphs: Triumphal March

before 1556
Not on view
Engraving, part of a set of 12 prints of rectangular shape, executed over black backgrounds, and depicting combats and triumphs, likely influenced by the combat scenes created by German masters such as Georg Pencz and the Beham brothers. This print represents a triumphal march, led by three trupet players, followed by a chariot pulled by prisoners, carrying a sitting king, half-covered with a robe and wearing a crown on his head, and tied to the chariot. Behind them, other prisoners follow them, carrying booties and herds of sheep and oxes.
