Woman's Tunic

Not on view

In northern Niger’s arid landscape, on the road between Hoggar and Aïr, an eighth-century tomb was excavated in 1988 by a French team from ORSTOM in partnership with the Institut de Recherches en Sciences Humaines in Niamey. The burial was that of a woman wrapped in bovine hide as well as several textiles, including this tunic and a shawl.
