Paintings attributed to Queen Charlotte of Württemberg German

Not on view

Attributed to cabinetmaker Johannes Klinckerfuss, this screen represents early-nineteenth-century courtly interest in the decorative arts. The screens may have been painted by Queen Charlotte-Mathilde of Württemberg, who collected several pieces of Klinckerfuss’ furniture which she adorned with painted paper and white porcelain panels. Klinckerfuss was one of David Roentgen’s best students, and his work perpetuated Roentgen’s influence in the German furniture market, as he became one of the most sought-after cabinetmakers of his generation.
