Square Tea table

Unknown

Not on view

This mid-eighteenth century table with its cabriole legs, molded top, and shell-carving hints to the influence of British rococo prototypes and more local, colonial stylizations emerging from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Often referred to as "square tea tables" in the period, these forms were produced in fewer numbers in New York than the circular, tilt-top type.
