Braid and soutache in the decorative configurations of Turkish style were ubiquitous by the mid-nineteenth century. Seen on costumes as disparate as children’s dresses, ladies’ summer walking ensembles, and men’s smoking jackets, the style was most evident on outer garments such as this mantle.
