An illustrated handbook of Indian arms : being a classified and descriptive catalogue of the arms exhibited at the India Museum : with an introductory sketch of the military history of India

Author Lord Wilbraham Egerton

On View Gallery Watson Library

Egerton, a scholar who wrote on diverse topics, began collecting Indian arms in 1855 when there were no books on the subject of Indian arms. This catalog, published in conjunction with an exhibit of his collection, was meant to be one of a series of handbooks on the resources and manufacture of India; however, the India Museum closed soon after this exhibition and all holdings were transferred to the South Kensington Museum.
