Moore drew design inspiration from diverse architectural motifs. Among the many architecture books in the Moore gift are fourteen volumes by James Fergusson, an architectural historian and prolific publisher. As a young man, Fergusson was captivated by the architecture of India, which sparked a life-long interest in all architecture. He hoped his encyclopedic work would inspire more original architecture in Britain.
