Glass bottle with two handles (amphoriskos)

Roman

Not on view

Translucent pale blue green; handles in same color.
Everted rim, folded over and in, and pressed into side of mouth; cylindrical neck with horizontal tooling indent at base; broad, sloping shoulder; funnel-shaped body with slight convex side; small integral base ring; uneven bottom with tooling indents; two slender handles, applied in pads on neck, drawn out and upward, then turned sharply down and in as straight rods, pressed onto shoulder and pinched off.
Intact; few bubbles; much of exterior covered in limy encrustation and iridescence, some weathering on interior.

This is a rare example of a free blown vessel whose handles belong to the Workshop of the Floating Handles group.
