Nach einer Ausbildung als Werbezeichner begann Rosenquist in den 1960er Jahren mit der Erstellung großer, aufwändig komponierter Werke als Pop-Art-Künstler. Feuerhaus verbreitet die Dynamik und sinnliche Farbgebung, die seine Arbeiten seit dieser Periode charakterisierten. In diesem allegorischen Triptychon werden prosaische Objekte seltsam trügerisch: Eine Einkaufstüte schwebt mysteriös in der Luft, ein übernatürlich strahlender Kübel aus geschmolzenem Stahl streckt sich durch ein Fenster und feurige Lippenstifte sind aufgereiht wie eine Kanonenbatterie. Die Hinweise auf Gewalt, Sex und Konsum erinnern an frühere Arbeiten, wie das monumentale F-111 aus 1965, das Bilder eines Jagdbombers der U.S. Air Force, eines Kindes und eines Haufens Spaghetti darstellt und einen erhöhten Sinn von Verführung und Gefahr hervorruft.
