A group of men in courtly dress flanks an enthroned figure, possibly Saint Mark, the first bishop of Alexandria. The followers may represent the patriarchs who succeeded Mark as the Christian leaders of the city. Animated onlookers peer from the windows of the elegantly carved cityscape.
