Sketches of East Asian Legendary Figures

Attributed to Kawanabe Kyōsai 河鍋暁斎 Japanese

Not on view

The sketches here show Japanese such as Daikoku and Urashima Tarō and images of Chinese immortals or figure of the Twenty-Four Paragons of Filial Piety. Though long attributed to Kyōsai, these sketches do not seem to be in hand of the master, and could have been created by a late nineteenth Kano artist of the day.
