Wedding Robe
Not on view
A new bride likely received this robe from her husband’s family as part of a traditional Crow wedding ceremony. A female artist beaded the horizontal lines, an ancient design associated with women, producing a visually complex composition. By breaking the lines of beading into segments of various colors, she created both horizontal bands and the appearance of vertical ones. The tradition of Crow wedding robes continues today.
