French

Not on view

Painted with great attention to detail, this fan shows Louis XV’s son greeting his Spanish bride at the palace gate. Clearly visible are the stars of the Order of the Holy Spirit on the coats of the bridegroom and a member of his retinue. French Guards (in blue uniforms with red breeches) stand to the left of the entrance to the inner courtyard and Swiss Guards (in red uniforms with blue breeches) to the right.
