Tarikh Ibn al-Mukhtar
Author Tarikh Ibn al-Mukhtar
Not on view
In the pages of this chronicle, which was copied from a seventeenth-century original, al-Mukhtar advocates for the reestablishment of an independent polity in the Songhay region through reconciliation between the local descendants of the Moroccan conquerors and their former Songhay subjects. Like the Tarikh al-Sudan, this text is concerned with the region’s legacy and invokes ancient Mali as one of the world’s great states.
