Bible box in book form

On View Gallery Watson Library

This large box in a Scandinavian style was possibly for a bible. It was hewn from one piece of wood, with end slides added, but opens from the top. The thin wood is finely carved with parallel lines combined into geometrical patterns. The design on the verso particularly resembles a fan-style bookbinding. The edges are painted gold. Thin lines at both spine ends resemble the endbands of books.
