Locket

On View Gallery Watson Library

Lockets containing portraits, photographs, and mementos have been given as gifts and treasured as heirlooms for centuries. While they were mostly made in round or oval format, the book form has always been a favorite as it offers additional motifs and meanings. Depending on the type of binding which inspired the locket (e.g. photograph album, poetry book, or bible) and the decorative motifs used (e.g. roses for love, four-leaf clovers for luck, or a cross), a locket can be made to communicate and evoke strong feelings of love, friendship, stability, faith and endurance.
