Not on view

The front side of this obelisk presents a portrait medal of Frederick V, King of Denmark and Norway, identified by an inscription with his titles, life dates, and motto. The memorial was turned by William I, Elector of Hesse, in homage to the king, who had become his father-in-law when he married Wilhelmine Caroline of Denmark in 1764. William and his younger brothers had learned to use a lathe as youths at the king’s court.
