Incense Box
This box exemplifies a sophisticated type of Chinese carved lacquer known as tixi, a term referring to the marbled appearance of its layers. The elegant design and skillful carving distinguish the box as the work of a master, and the signature of the fourteenth-century master Yang Mao is incised on the underside.
