Powder Flask
Not on view
Following his 1742 audience with Louis XV, the ambassador Mehmed Said Efendi presented the king with sumptuous arms and armor that reflected Ottoman imperial pride in the military arts. The gifts included this emerald-studded powder flask, worth eighteen thousand livres at the time, a velvet quiver, as well as a bejeweled saddle, harness, and set of gold stirrups.
