The flanged rim bowl is an imitation of a ware called North African Red Slip, which was imported throughout the Roman and early Byzantine world. This bowl was made at a local pottery workshop in the Oases of the Western Desert. It has a hole in the bottom, which could have been made when the excavators were retrieving the artifacts from the site.
