ティーポット
自ら「ビロキシの変人陶芸師」を名乗ったミシシッピ州の美術家ジョージ・オールは、絵画の分野よりも半世紀早く、陶芸の分野で抽象的表現主義に基づく作品を制作しました。まぎれもない美術陶芸作家だったオールは、自分で粘土を掘り出し、優れた造形の器を自らロクロで作り、釉薬を開発し、窯で焼成しました。この赤い陶器のティーポットは、彼の陶芸に対する冒険的・実験的なアプローチを示しています。胴を押し込み、取っ手をつまむことで通常のティーポットを変形し、当時の定型化された陶器に挑む創作力と奇抜さを表しました。さらに、火ぶくれで覆われた赤い釉薬という斬新な仕上げがオールの創意工夫を示しています。
